Program and Volunteer Manager

York, PA

Part time, 25 hours/week maintaining a regular schedule on Friday and Saturday, with flex scheduling for the remaining hours each month. Reports to Crispus Attucks Community Development Director.

Position Summary

The Manager shall provide comprehensive oversight and management for the Goodridge Freedom Center and Underground Railroad Museum. He/she must exhibit strong organizational, writing and presentation skills. He/she must have effective management and leadership control. Creative thinking and problem solving capabilities are essential.

Functional Responsibilities

  • Have Goodridge Freedom Center and Underground Railroad Museum open to the public on Fridays and Saturdays and other days as needed for tours, events, and receptions
  • Coordinate volunteers
  • Grant writing, funding requests
  • Assist with marketing and promotions
  • Plan First Friday presentations, coordinating speakers, PR, set-up
  • Chair Festival of Trees committee
  • Liaison with government and funding sources
  • Report compilation and writing
  • Group presentations and tours
  • Keep Goodridge Freedom Center and Underground Railroad Museum clean
  • Alert CA Maintenance Dept of any repairs needed

Other Responsibilities

  • Community meetings and general liaison work
  • Assist with website and social media updates and postings
  • Represent Crispus Attucks in the community

Education, Experience and Skills Required

  • High School diploma with strong interpersonal skills
  • Self starter
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Able to be flexible and accommodating for deadlines and visitors
  • Successful grant writing experience
  • Experience in organizing and conducting meetings and events
  • Superior presentation skills
  • Management and training of volunteers helpful
  • Must be able to traverse 3 flights of stairs and speak clearly to a group of 30 visitors
