Introducing Intern Anna

Meet Anna Leair, a recent grad from Harrisburg Area Community College with a degree in Human Services, who has a passion for working with the elder community. In early June, she started an internship at our Active Living Center, a program designed to meet the needs of seniors 60 plus in York’s community. Anna assists Active Living Center Director Robin Beatty-Smith several days a week. “Robin is both caring, respectful, and full of integrity as she interacts with the community of Crispus Attucks,” said Anna. “She not only helps others, but she does not expect anything in return.”

There are many seniors throughout York County that need support from outside resources. Many don’t have loved ones to take care of their health and wellness needs. Our Active Living Center provides seniors with daily activities and lunches, weekly grocery shopping trips, monthly events, field trips, health screenings and more. “The people and the community of Crispus Attucks are very loving, accepting, and have so much wisdom,” said Anna. “It doesn’t matter who you are or what you have been through, they will help you in any way they can.”

It takes people with real compassion to fulfill the roles of all the programs offered at Crispus Attucks. Because of Anna’s compassion for helping the elderly, she plans to go back to Harrisburg Area Community College to obtain her Gerontology Certificate. “I have much respect for what Crispus Attucks stands for and how they are an integral part of the community of York City,” she said. “I want to thank Robin Beatty-Smith and the staff at Crispus Attucks for allowing me the opportunity to grow and enrich the lives of others here in our community!”
