Jeanine Richardson, 55, moved to York about 4 years ago from Greenville, South Carolina in an effort to make a better life for her teenage daughter and herself. She had faced a lot of adversity and knew it was time to make a big change. She had to find everything from a new place to live and school for her daughter, to a job after nearly a decade out of the workforce.
Jeanine and her daughter attended one of our Center for Employment and Training events to learn about our Summer Career Employment Academy for youth. There, Program Manager Shana Scott shared additional information about other beneficial programs offered at Crispus Attucks, including our Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) for adults ages 55+ who are reentering the workforce.
It didn’t take long before Jeanine landed a part-time Office Assistant position through our SCSEP program at our Development Department. Here she is able to utilize her data entry experience while developing new skills. Her primary responsibilities include office organization, grant research and writing. “The staff have been very patient and able to explain thoroughly the different assignments I have been asked to do,” Jeanine said, “To this date, I have enjoyed this position immensely.”
She takes pride in knowing she not only found a good place to work, but a place to form new relationships while building up her resume. “I would definitely recommend this program to others,” Jeanine said. “This position has left a lasting impression on furthering my educational goals and job qualifications. I believe I will be an asset to any program that’s willing to make an investment in me.”
