Making the Dream Work

MLK Day of Service 2018

The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. federal holiday is a perfect opportunity for Americans to honor Dr. King’s legacy through service. The MLK Day of Service empowers individuals, strengthens communities, bridges barriers, creates solutions to social problems, and moves us closer to Dr. King’s vision of a beloved community.  We are proud to participate in this national day of service known as a “day on, not a day off.” On Monday, January 15, we will host our 36th Annual MLK Day of Service with the theme of “Making the Dream Work.”

Attendees will have the opportunity to honor the work and life of Dr. King through volunteer service projects with various organizations throughout York. Volunteers are encouraged to pre-register here to ensure they can participate in their preferred project. The full list of volunteer opportunities can be found here.

Our 36th Annual MLK Day of Service will start with a program and breakfast. The program will feature entertainment from the York Academy Jazz Band, Helen Thackston Gospel Choir, Helen Thackston Dance Team, and the South Side Steppers Drill Team. Crispus Attucks will also recognize a local York City youth who continues Dr. King’s legacy by demonstrating service and responsibility with the Living the Dream award. Breakfast will be provided to all visitors.
