Martharine Finds Promise

The future is looking bright for Ms. Martharine Harris.  She recently went from subsidized, part-time employment through our Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), to a part-time Aide at our Early Learning Center working with school-aged children; with promise of becoming an Assistant Group Supervisor in the near future.

Martharine began employment through our SCSEP program in June 2018, where she was assigned a position as Office Assistant at our Early Learning Center. She quickly became the friendly face parents and clients were greeted by as they entered the building. Her friendly demeanor, and professionalism led our Early Learning Center Director to consider her for a more permanent, unsubsidised position after only a few months in the program.

She was also given the opportunity to participate in the Child Development Associate (CDA) program offered at our Early Learning Center through our partnership with HACC. The Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential™ is the most widely recognized credential in early childhood education (ECE) and is a key stepping stone on the path of career advancement in ECE.

Martharine delightfully accepted this opportunity for advanced training. And, she is anxiously anticipating graduation in May 2019. She plans to continue her early education training at Penn State York in the near future to further pursue her passion for working with school-age children.

“I love working with the young children,” she said. “They each have different, unique, personalities.”

Kudos to Ms. Martharine for advancing so quickly towards a promising career in early education.
