Open Your Business in a York City Neighborhood

The CA/SCORE Urban Entrepreneur Initiative (UEI) has gotten off to a great start! At our March 27th launch event, 23 entrepreneurs, bankers, neighborhood advocates and others saw the results of the UEI neighborhood business preference survey.

The survey of York City residents described the new businesses they preferred within 15 minutes walking distance of their homes. This information is important because it will help direct entrepreneurs toward businesses that potential customers say they want near them.

In the meantime, to help entrepreneurs prepare to develop these neighborhood businesses, CA/SCORE will hold five Saturday morning two-hour classes at CA during the month of May. The final class will feature pitches from the class participants before a panel of judges. The judges will then choose which three of the entrepreneurs they will endorse for future close support by CA/SCORE. This support will enable the entrepreneurs to develop for-profit or non-profit business plans, talk to financing entities, and learn from others who are in like businesses. The goal is to help these three entrepreneurs move with deliberate speed toward opening a neighborhood business.

You can view the results of the survey here. More details on the UEI classes can be found here. Registration deadline for the UEI classes is Sunday, April 29.
