This summer, youth ages 14-18 from all over York County participated in our Center for Employment & Training‘s Summer Career Employment Academy, where they developed necessary skills to find secure employment after high school. They honed in on team-building exercises, and practiced positive, professional attitudes, resume writing techniques, and job-site training.
Harrisburg Area Community College provided job training at their York campus, where several participants assisted in filing and mailing projects. Others cleaned and organized local schools, like Hannah Penn Middle School and Alexander D. Goode School, or helped with office duties and childcare.
“I literally got my feet wet,” described one participant about his experience teaching children to swim at the York County YMCA. “I was able to work with kids and enjoy my job as well!”
“They’re able to gain insight into careers that interest them,” said Center for Employment Director, Michael Jefferson. Our yearly Summer Career Employment Academy not only builds confidence, it provides youth with a guided hand and a clearer path to the right career choice.
