The morning program will include the annual "Living the Dream award celebration\, entertainment\, and community service opportunities to benefit local non-profit organizations. This year theme\, “Not a day off\, but a day on”\, amplifies Dr. King’s message of community service. Now is the time to act on Dr. King message and his dream. \nJoin us for a day of celebration and service to others. This free event was\nsponsored by Aetna Better Health\, the American Water Charitable Foundation\, and the Welcoming Communities grant from Cultural Alliance of York County. Please note: children in attendance must be accompanied by an adult. \nThe Michael D. Jefferson “Living the Dream” award recognizes York countians who\nexemplify Dr. King’s and Mr. Jefferson’s legacy through academic effort\, community\nservice\, and leadership in the York community. DESCRIPTION:York\, PA – On Friday\, September 13\, 2024 from 10 am until 2 PM at WellSpan Park Baseball Stadium\, home of the York Revolution\, 5 Brooks Robinson Way\, York PA 17401\, Crispus Attucks York will host the Second Annual STAND DOWN event for at-risk veterans and veterans experiencing homelessness in York County. This event is in partnership with the York Revolution\, Lifepath Christian Ministries\, PA Career Link\, York Benevolent Association\, The Salvation Army\, Advent Lutheran Church\, Papa John’s\, and other non-profit organizations and business supporters. Veterans will receive a free hot BBQ lunch\, a tote bag of non-perishable foods\, hygiene kits\, Rabbit Transit bus passes\, haircuts\, dental and health screenings\, clothing\, and have access to the shower facilities provided by the York Revolution. This significant public infrastructure project aims to revitalize the stretch of Codorus Creek in the heart of York. Led by YECA and supported by their consultant\, Burchhart Horn\, spanning from 2023 to 2026\, with completion anticipated by 2027. \nThis hands-on experience will not only allow students to witness the transformation of York City but also engage them in a tangible application of their education. By addressing the historically low representation of minority practitioners in architecture and engineering\, particularly African Americans who constitute less than two-tenths of one percent of licensed architects in America\, the CCSEP seeks to foster interest and participation in these fields. The program’s objectives include increasing awareness of public projects\, providing valuable work experience\, facilitating professional networking\, and showcasing the practical applications of academic learning through project-based activities. This initiative will also support students in visualizing their future careers\, preparing them for post-secondary education\, and contributing to the development of a more diverse and inclusive workforce. \nThe Codorus Creek Improvement Project represents one of the greatest opportunities of a lifetime for many York County residents. The project has been in the planning stages for over 100 years and presents an enormous economic opportunity that will transform the city and have a lasting impact on improving the quality of life providing a range of educational\, workforce\, and talent development opportunities.
