SUMMARY:2nd Annual Crispus Attucks York Veterans Stand Down to Homelessness Event
DESCRIPTION:York\, PA – On Friday\, September 13\, 2024 from 10 am until 2 PM at WellSpan Park Baseball Stadium\, home of the York Revolution\, 5 Brooks Robinson Way\, York PA 17401\, Crispus Attucks York will host the Second Annual STAND DOWN event for at-risk veterans and veterans experiencing homelessness in York County. This event is in partnership with the York Revolution\, Lifepath Christian Ministries\, PA Career Link\, York Benevolent Association\, The Salvation Army\, Advent Lutheran Church\, Papa John’s\, and other non-profit organizations and business supporters. Veterans will receive a free hot BBQ lunch\, a tote bag of non-perishable foods\, hygiene kits\, Rabbit Transit bus passes\, haircuts\, dental and health screenings\, clothing\, and have access to the shower facilities provided by the York Revolution. Numerous organizations will be at the event to provide a variety of community resources to assist the veterans. \nPlease join us on September 13\, 2024 and STAND DOWN to homelessness by helping veterans in our communities. This significant public infrastructure project aims to revitalize the stretch of Codorus Creek in the heart of York. Led by YECA and supported by their consultant\, Burchhart Horn\, spanning from 2023 to 2026\, with completion anticipated by 2027. \nThis hands-on experience will not only allow students to witness the transformation of York City but also engage them in a tangible application of their education. By addressing the historically low representation of minority practitioners in architecture and engineering\, particularly African Americans who constitute less than two-tenths of one percent of licensed architects in America\, the CCSEP seeks to foster interest and participation in these fields. The program’s objectives include increasing awareness of public projects\, providing valuable work experience\, facilitating professional networking\, and showcasing the practical applications of academic learning through project-based activities. This initiative will also support students in visualizing their future careers\, preparing them for post-secondary education\, and contributing to the development of a more diverse and inclusive workforce. \nThe Codorus Creek Improvement Project represents one of the greatest opportunities of a lifetime for many York County residents. The project has been in the planning stages for over 100 years and presents an enormous economic opportunity that will transform the city and have a lasting impact on improving the quality of life providing a range of educational\, workforce\, and talent development opportunities. Other areas of human development such as professional and career development will be enhanced because of this project. CHANGING OUR FUTURE.”\nGROUNDBREAKING CELEBRATION \nYork\, PA – On Wednesday\, November 15 th at 10 AM\, Crispus Attucks York will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Crispus Attucks York History and Culture Center – location for event is 45 East Boundary Avenue\, York\, PA 17401 – adjacent to the Susan Byrnes Health Education Center and directly across from our Early Learning Center. \nhttps://crispusattucks.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Groundbreaking_Narrative_CC_Web.mp4\n  \nThe Crispus Attucks History and Culture Center will celebrate\, preserve\, and teach the living history and traditions of African-Americans in greater York and beyond\, bringing diverse communities together through the combined narratives of artistic\, cultural\, and historical treasures in order to enhance understanding among people. We are excited to begin the building phase of this important project and plan to open the center to the public by March of 2025. \n \nThe Center will explore\, document\, and showcase the African American story and impact on York City as well as African Americans’ important place in and contributions to our country’s history. Through the vision\, voice\, creativity and perspective of African Americans in York County\, we will educate the public on York’s history of slavery\, segregation\, civil unrest\, social injustice\, and activism in order to aim toward change and cultivate a better future. It will also be used as a meeting space for the community to gather\, build relationships\, strengthen bonds\, and learn about themselves and each other. Additionally\, the center will depict the rich and varied cultural experiences of other residents of York County\, such as the Latino population\, and their contributions to the York community. \nCrispus Attucks York is a United Way of York County Community Partner.
