10th Annual Center for Employment and Training Holiday Celebration
The Crispus Attucks York Senior Worker Program, Center for Employment and Training, celebrated its 10th Annual Holiday In-service Ceremony at Zion United Church of Christ in York, PA. The event commenced with an introduction of CAY Staff, Participants, and the inaugural class from York-area high schools who took part in the six-week Codorus Creek Enrichment Program over the summer. CAY Employment and Training Director, Barry Freeland addressed the crowd, sharing insights about the first class of students, known as “The First Fourteen,” who delved into learning about the creek, discussed planned improvements for the waterway, and recounted stories from its banks. The program was a fantastic experience for the York County school students.
The senior attendees were captivated by the success of the CCSEP over the summer. Montika, a PR Major at Messiah University and a leading student, shared her experience participating in the ETC CCSEP and highlighted the program’s influence on her education and perspective of the Codorus Creek initiative. The event also featured an incredible singing performance by Ms. Mylia Thomson, a CAY ETC Staff member, for which she was warmly thanked for gracing the crowd with her beautiful voice.
A special appreciation was extended to retired York Dispatch reporter and York Historian, Jim McClure, for sharing his experience as a CCSEP faculty member. He had the opportunity to co-teach the students alongside our very own Jeff Kirkland, a CAY ETC Staff member and York Historian. Following the student awards ceremony, everyone enjoyed a delightful holiday meal.
