Congratulations to Mr. Robert Simpson and Mrs. Jacqueline Martino Miller for serving our community for 45 years!
- Mr. Simpson, “In 1979 when I became Executive Director at Crispus Attucks, we had gone through 7 Executive Directors in 9 years. The United Way at that time was our primary funding source, and they called Ray Crenshaw, the Board President, Dan Elby the Vice President, and me to a meeting. At that meeting they said “We will give you six months to turn Crispus Attucks around; if not we will take your funding and we would have had to close. But you know the sad part about it, many, and I repeat many, in the black community said “close it down and let the City of York take it over.” I said to them “Yes, you are so right. We need to do a better job, and we will, but never again will any one funding source ever have the ability to close this agency down!”
- CAY HCC Coordinator , “We talked about this new Center being Mr. Simpson’s vision. But it is evident there is a lot more to it than that. Yes, this is Mr. Simpson’s vision…but it is his vision for his community…his community that he was born and raised in… …his community that he gave up an excellent job at Caterpillar to come to Crispus Attucks and make it what it is today…his community that he wants to share with the next generation and see them prosper and thrive. Because one man had a vision for his community, we will continue to be Molded By History while Changing Our future by creation of the Crispus Attucks History and Culture Center.”
Once again, thank you for your unwavering support, your generosity, and your dedication to Crispus Attucks York. Together, we are making a difference, and with your continued support, we will continue to transform lives and build a stronger, more vibrant community for all.
With sincere appreciation and warm regards!
