FACES OF FREEDOM Exhibit at The Goodridge Freedom Center a classic!

We would like to thank everyone that joined us for the opening of “Faces of Freedom” at the William C. Goodridge Freedom Center and Underground Railroad Museum in York, Pa. for the opening day Saturday, April 20, 2024.

The powerful African American Civil War soldier images showcased truly embody the essence of the struggle for freedom, evident in their resolute gazes. If you missed the event, don’t worry as this captivating exhibition will continue to be showcased until July. Be sure not to pass up this opportunity! A special thank you to Military Images and Explore York County PA for their fantastic collaboration!

The exhibit featured high-quality prints of 37 wartime portraits of Black soldiers who served in the U.S. Army and Navy during the Civil War. The images are from private and public collections. Admission is free.

Big thanks to Ron Coddington, Editor and Publisher of Military Images magazine, for holding great discusses of the  photographs and the exhibit. Also, Living History interpreter Darlene Colon who portrayed Lydia Hamilton Smith!
