Great turnout for the 2nd Annual CAY Veterans Stand Down To Homelessness
On September 13th, 2024 the York Revolution Baseball Stadium was transformed into a beacon of hope and support during our CAY 2nd Annual Veterans Experiencing Homelessness Stand Down Event. This year’s gathering brought together veterans, community members, and local organizations, such as York Benevolent Association, Advent Lutheran Church, The Salvation Army, York Revolution, LifePath Christian Ministries, Pa Career Link York County, Dental Health Associates, Dover Friendship Church, Glatfelter Insurance Group, GGA Law Firm, and many more (See all partners at bottom) all united in a shared mission: to assist those who have bravely served our country.
From the moment the doors opened at 10 AM, Veterans and their families arrived to access crucial resources and services designed to support their needs. The day was filled with various activities aimed at addressing the challenges faced by veterans experiencing homelessness and those at risk.
This year’s event provided a wide array of essential services, including:
-Health Screenings: Local healthcare providers offered free health check-ups, vaccinations, and information on mental health resources.
-Housing Assistance: Organizations were on hand to provide information about available housing resources and support services, helping veterans find stable living conditions.
– Employment Resources: Veterans were able to access job training programs, resume-building workshops, and connections to local employers looking to hire.
– Nutritional Support: Attendees enjoyed complimentary meals and learned about local food resources to support their families.
These services not only met immediate needs but also empowered veterans to take the next steps toward stability and independence.
Community Engagement
The event was not just about resources; it was also about building a sense of community. Veterans shared their stories, volunteers offered their time and support, and local businesses rallied together to create an atmosphere of hope and resilience. The connections made throughout the day fostered a spirit of solidarity that will endure beyond the event itself.
