Reflecting on 2024: Celebrating Our Memories and Accomplishments!
Crispus Attucks York extends heartfelt gratitude to our community, donors, partners, volunteers, teachers, and staff for an amazing 2024! This past year was filled with impactful milestones, generous contributions, and memories that strengthened our mission of building a better community. Here are some highlights from the year:
This would be the year construction has stared for our new CAY History and Culture Center! Marketing a tremendous milestone to preserve and tell the story of African American and Latin history and heritage here in York, PA. While educating the next generation. The excitement and anticipation to walk through the newly built CAYHCC is high as we shared the whole process with our community over social media pages and the creation of our new HCC Website www.cayhcc.org. Be sure to subscribe!
The CAY Rising STARS afterschool Program received the prestigious Chick-Fil-A True Inspiration Award of $125,000, generously presented by Cathy Dallas, owner of Chick-Fil-A York, PA – East Branch. We also celebrated our 42nd Annual Martin Luther King Day of Service, where the 2024 Michael D. Jefferson “Living the Dream” Awards were presented. A young MLK-inspired speaker shared Dr. King’s iconic words, accompanied by a powerful chant of “We shall overcome.”

The CAY History and Culture Center (HCC) Lead Historian Jeff Kirkland was featured in the Appell Center for the Performing Arts’ African American Movie Series. Jeff curated the movie A Man Called Adam, drawing meaningful connections to York’s history. Also, CAYHCC would host it’s first Community Night to help encourage our community to participate in Living History Projects, Identify Archived Photos, and sharing Artifacts with our CAYHCC Historians.
Meanwhile, our Housing and Development Department began demolition on the E. Maple Street Apartments, paving the way for future renovations and possibilities.
The Career Focus Institute, part of the CAY ETC program, had an outstanding year with initiatives such as Cyber Security Tutoring, Management-Leadership & You, and the Planning & Design programs. These offerings continue to equip individuals with the skills and opportunities needed for meaningful careers. Another ETC program that gained significant interest this year is the CAY Codorus Corridor Summer Enrichment Program (CCSEP). We extend our gratitude to everyone involved in providing our young scholars with exposure to career pathways they might not have experienced otherwise!
During our 93rd Annual Meeting themed, ” Building Unity, Building Community” evolved around the journey and process of the new CAYHCC building from fundraising to the drafting of the building design. We also proudly recognized our “Give Rise to Possible” award winners, celebrating their commitment to advancing education and community goals.
The 2024 Give Local York Campaign was a resounding success, raising close to $40,000 for the CAY STEAM Educational Programs Computer Lab, supported by matching contributions from JLS Automation and anonymous CAY employees. The community or our village came together to make this possible for the next generation of innovators!
The Goodridge Freedom Center showcased its Faces of Freedom Exhibit, highlighting the stories of free men who served in WWI with the hope of freedom. The Center also celebrated 250 years since York City’s founding, and the Festival of Trees saw another exceptional turnout of visitors.
We ended the year on a high note with our Early Learning Center (ELC) being one of four childcare locations featured on the ECHO Bus Tour. This recognition highlighted the positive impact of the first round of the ECHO grant on our programs.
Crispus Attucks York is deeply thankful for another successful year filled with progress, partnerships, and community building. Here’s to continuing this journey together in 2025!
