Celebrating a Decade of Community at the 10th Anniversary Village Tea
On June 28, 2025, Crispus Attucks York hosted the 10th Annual Village Tea—a heartfelt celebration that honored the legacy of Marion Howard and recognized individuals who continue to uplift and empower the next generation. Themed “A Trip Through Marion’s Village,” this special afternoon paid tribute to the many hands and hearts that shape the lives of young people in our community.
Held from 2:00 to 5:00 PM, the event gathered community leaders, past honorees, families, and friends to reflect on the impact of a decade of “It Takes A Village” award recipients. Attendees were welcomed by Jacquie Martino-Miller and guided through the program by Queens of Ceremony, Teekemia Reynolds and Ashaki Howard.

As a highlight of this milestone year, Representative Carol Hill-Evans and the Pennsylvania House of Representatives issued an official commendation honoring Crispus Attucks York for 10 years of administering the Marion Howard “It Takes A Village” Award. The proclamation recognized the award’s significance in community building, its impact on the lives of young people, and the enduring legacy of Marion Howard’s values.

In honor of the occasion and to reflect cultural pride and unity, attendees were encouraged to wear African-themed attire. The vibrant colors, traditional fabrics, and expressive styles beautifully reinforced the event’s message of heritage, community, and connection to roots.

This year’s honorees—Donna Watkins, Diaz Woodard, and Selena Generett Johnson—were celebrated for their unwavering commitment to youth empowerment, mentorship, and service. Their inspiring biographies were shared by Teekemia Reynolds, whose dedication has helped sustain the vision of this award. The event also featured a stirring poetry selection by Pamela Woodard and a powerful gathering of past award recipients, recognizing 10 years of outstanding community champions.

The “It Takes A Village” award was established in 2015 in memory of Marion Howard, a devoted advocate for justice, education, and unconditional support of young people. The award celebrates individuals who embody her legacy—those who love, value, and commit to guiding youth with compassion and integrity.

Special thanks were extended to the Randy Christie Family for their generous donation, which ensured each award recipient was honored with a meaningful gift.
As attendees enjoyed fellowship and refreshments during “Chat & Chew,” the spirit of Marion Howard’s legacy was alive and well—a reminder that the village is strong, and the journey continues.
