Summary:
Instructs children in developmentally appropriate activities designed to promote
social, physical, and intellectual growth in accordance with the Crispus Attucks
Early Learning Center mission, Pre-K Counts requirements, and DHS regulations
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
– Plan individual and group activities to stimulate growth in language, social, and
motor skills such as learning to listen to instructions, playing with others, and
using play equipment in accordance with the policies and the philosophy of
Early Learning Center. Use developmentally appropriate practices consistent
with the expectations of NAEYC and designed to meet the children’s assessed
needs.
– Maintain lesson plans aligned with center curriculum.
– Conduct a daily health check of each child on arrival. Instruct children
in practices of personal cleanliness and self-care.
– Alternate periods of strenuous activity with periods of rest or light activity to
avoid over-stimulation and fatigue.
– Help children develop habits of caring for own clothing and picking up and
putting away toys and books.
– Participate with and supervise children at all times.
– Submit timely reports, timesheets and statistics.
– Assess the children’s learning needs through documented observations, gear the
program to the needs of the individual child, consider the individual child in
his/her cultural and socioeconomic background, and help each child to
understand his/her value in the group.
– Provide children with experiences which build self-esteem, encourage
self- reliance, and help each child to function cooperatively in a group.
– Confer and maintain a positive relationship with parents, and
communicate necessary information in a professional manner.
– Serve meals and refreshments to children under CACFP regulations.
– Maintain personal cleanliness, including washing hands after toileting,
nose wiping and before preparing and/or serving lunches and snacks.
– Keep room environment interesting, safe and clean. Report maintenance and
safety concerns to Director or Coordinator, as needed.
– Perform general housekeeping tasks.
– Maintain high level of job integrity and professionalism while adhering to ethical code of conduct.
– Attend parent meetings, special events, and all staff meetings.
– Maintain professional growth in accordance to high quality standards.
– Complete 24 hours of training annually as assigned.
– Complete Act 48 hours to remain in compliance with teachercertification standards.
– Complete fire safety training annually.
– Complete emergency safety training annually.
– Complete food program training annually.
– Complete water safety training annually (site specific).
– Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
– Work well with staff and volunteers.
– Work flexible hours.
– Oversee classroom teachers under supervision of center Director and Pre-K Counts Coordinator.
– Convert Instructional Level I certificate to an Instructional Level II certificate
within 6 years from the time of initial service as an Instructional Level I teacher in the program.
– Participation in a Teacher Induction program, which includes 6 bi-annual
evaluations and PDE specified continuing professional development credits.
– Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
A lead teacher shall have attained the following qualifications:
– A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary
education or the human services field.
– Early Childhood Education (ECE) certification for the state of Pennsylvania.
– Highly qualified teacher status, according to Pennsylvania Department of Education’s standards.
Crispus Attucks Early Learning Center York, PA adheres to NAEYC and
Pennsylvania state standards of teacher excellence; and, therefore requires and
supports teachers in being life-long learners. These standards require all teachers to
have specialized college- level coursework in best practices. Teachers will be
expected to further their own education to become highly qualified
professionals. Crispus Attucks Early Learning Center, York, PA offers educational
assistance as funds are available for educational programs such as professional
workshops and tuition reimbursement for post-secondary degrees.
